UZS Dice Game
In January 1992, Uzbekistan introduced coupon cards to protect the consumer market. Initially, they planned to launch them in December 1991. Coupons were distributed at places of work, study, service, or pension receipt and were used alongside rubles to pay for goods. Obviously, there was no such thing as UZS dice gmabling during this period. Stores were required to submit coupons along with their revenue. Coupon denominations varied from 10 to 5,000 rubles at different times and were valid for a quarter.
On July 1, 1994, the new national currency, the Uzbek sum (UZS), was introduced. This event marked a significant milestone in the country's economic history. The exchange rate was set at 1 sum to 1,000 sum coupons. Right after the UZS dice games were presented to masses.
The banknotes and coins of the Uzbek sum feature historical and cultural symbols of Uzbekistan. The initial design of the banknotes included images of architectural monuments, national ornaments, and portraits of prominent figures. For example, the banknotes depicted the Sherdor Madrasah in Samarkand and the Khazrati Imam Complex in Tashkent. Despite the cultural ban, UZS gambling was gaining momentum.
Despite undergoing many stages and changes, a key moment for the sum was the liberalization of the foreign exchange market in 2017, which divided the development of the Uzbek currency into two periods.
The period of establishing independence (1991–2017): the exchange rate of the sum was fixed and strictly controlled by the Central Bank. The official dollar rate was about 4,210 sums. Alongside the official market, there was an active black currency market, where unofficial currency exchange took place, often at higher rates than in the official market. Also, by the end of this period the UZS dice games in crypto casinos were first introduced.
Liberalization of the foreign exchange market (since 2017): In September 2017, a reform aimed at liberalizing the foreign exchange market was introduced. Crypto casinos and other gambling entities started to actively promote UZS dice games. In 2019, the fixed exchange rate was abolished and replaced with a floating rate. This led to an initial devaluation of the sum. The dollar rate rose from the official 4,210 sums to more realistic values around 8–9 thousand sums.
